Subject: USAID employees make a mockery of efforts to protect children in Haiti

June 29, 2013

Rajiv Shah
Administrator
USAID
Washington, DC

Dear Mr. Shah,

I cannot begin to tell you how disturbing and hurtful it is to learn that USAID officials in the U.S. and Haiti have chosen to make a mockery of our efforts to help protect children in Haiti from child sexual abuse.

Please click the link below to read a string of emails between USAID employees regarding allegations of child sexual abuse against the director of an orphanage in Haiti.

As a U.S. citizen, I am proud that USAID seeks to protect the human rights of all people throughout the world.

However, I am dismayed, as I hope you are, by the attitude of your USAID team in Haiti (stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Port au Prince) who refused to pick up the phone and, at the very least, call me for more information about the child sexual abuse issue that I and others have raised.

Come with me to Haiti, Mr. Shah.

Together, we will be a voice for those who are either unable or too afraid to speak for themselves.

I hope you will call me.

Sincerely,
Paul Kendrick

Hey Jess,
This escalated today when he started reaching out to individual people on the Haiti Task Team. (He
never called the number back which he called yesterday.) Carleene also emailed the LAC front
office w/an update, so we explained the situation to them as well.
Hope you’re doing OK. This must be really stressful for you.

Thanks everyone for all of this information. My sincerest apologies that this crazy lunatic man is
now taking up your time as well. He has been systematically going after anyone who has a
relationship with the St. Joseph’s Family Home with outlandish claims.
I spoke with Jon Piechowski, and will be moving forward with some reports to RSO and the
consular office. If you hear of anything or need any additional information, please do not hesitate
to ask. I’ve now, unfortunately, been thrown into all the mess Paul Kendricks has created for this
organization.
Best, Jess

I spoke to LPA about this issue. As Mr. Kendrick is an activist and not an influential blogger, they
advise not responding to him. They know the mission/OTI is handling it.
If Mr. Kendrick reaches out to any reputable news organizations, the reporters would call USAID for
a response if they think the story has any merit. If that happens, LPA will need to advise on a
response, so please let me know if you get any media queries.
If you haven’t already, I’d give Jon Piechowski w/PD a head’s up in case Mr. Kendrick calls him as
well.

Hello Jessica –
Thanks for filling me in by phone. As we discussed, Paul Kendrick has already called us and left
messages. Dan and I will not return the calls, since this is best handled by folks at the Mission and
OTI.

I’m also trying to find out what this is about. So far, I’ve discovered that Paul Kendrick has a blog
(http://dossiergeilenfeld.blogspot.com/) about child molestation charges against Michael
Geilenfeld, founder of St. Joseph’s Home for Boys in Port-au-Prince. I had read about this in the
news, but this is the first time I’ve seen it on my USAID radar. I’ll keep you in the loop.

Dear Ms. Poe,
Within 24 hours of my writing to you about USAID employee Jessica
Reitz’s published comments on the web site of a credibly accused child
molester, Reitz’s comments have suddenly been removed from the very
same web site.
Why?
Does Ms. Reitz no longer support Mr. Geilenfeld?
I would like to speak with Jessica Reitz. I can be reached at 207 838

You should know that no one answers the telephone at the USAID office
at the U.S. Embassy in Port au Prince.
I will call Desk Officer Dan Riley in Washington D.C. on Friday.
You should all know how difficult it has been for us to help those who
were sexually abused by Geilenfeld because of hostile interference by his
U.S. board of directors and supporters. To discover that a USAID
employee is pals with not only Geilenfeld, the child molester, but with
Geilenfeld’s cheif enabler, Renee Dietrich is heartbreaking, to say the
least.

Michael Geilenfeld
Executive Director
St. Joseph’s Family of Homes
Port au Prince, Haiti
Dear Mr. Geilenfeld,
Why did you remove USAID employee Jessica Reitz’s comments from your new web site?
Did Ms. Reitz ask you to remove her comments? Perhaps, Ms. Reitz no longer wants to be associated with you. I can only hope
that Ms. Reitz (and others) will stop doing you favors vis a vis her position at the U.S. Embassy in Port au Prince.
Perhaps, Ms. Reitz, USAID and U.S. Embassy employees will now turn their attention to helping the children you abused and
concentrate on protecting children from abuse who are now in your care.
HWH 611
2
You, Mr. Geilenfeld, are the biggest fool of all. Soon you will be arrested for the crimes you committed against poor and
innocent children. This last ditch masquerade of yours is akin to rearranging the deck chairs on the sinking Titanic.
You can play all the tricks you want, but justice for those you have harmed will prevail.
You will be tried in a U.S. criminal court of law. You cannot escape. There’s no place for you to hide.
Your enablers, Rev. Patrick Hamrick, Rev. Rick Barger, Rev. Rob Patterson, Paul D’Oliviera, Julie Sutton of the Haitian
Timoun Foundation, Attorney Andy Whiteman and now Geoffrey Hamlyn, the newly hired executive director of Hearts with
Haiti, among others, will soon be placed in the public spotlight as despicable examples of people who fought with all their
might to defend and protect a credibly accused child molester, all the while ignoring the cries for help of the abused children.
From the start, Mr. Geilenfeld, I have repeatedly asked you and the Hearts with Haiti board members a very simple question:
“How many times during his lifetime has Michael Geil enfeld been accused of child sex abuse?”
Is this not a reasonable question to ask an individual who is entrusted with the care and well being of children?
We are listening with open hearts and minds to the heartbreaking stories of the poor and vulnerable children you sexually
abused, Mr. Geilenfeld. You have done horrific things to these children.
You began raping children the moment you arrived in Port au Prince in 1984. At the end of that year, your religious superior
called you back to the U.S. and told you not to return to Haiti. But, you did return. A year later, you resigned as a Brother of the
Missionaries of Charity, came back to Port au Prince, gathered up the very same boys you had already abused, rented a home,
called yourself an orphanage director, and the cycle of abuse began again.
Here’s some unsolicited advice.
Surrender immediately to U.S. law enforcement authorities at the U.S. Embassy in Port au Prince.< br>
Confess to each and every crime you have committed against children in Haiti, the U.S. and elsewhere.
Enter a guilty plea in U.S. federal criminal court for your crimes against children including trafficking, sexual exploitation,
engaging in prostitution, sexually abusing minor children and all the other filthy, harmful and terrible things you have done to
kids.

Paul Kendrick

Subject: For the record: To Hearts with Haiti
December 19, 2012
To: Hearts with Haiti Board Members and Timoun Foundation Leadership Team.
ON THE RECORD
I am sickened by the victims’ testimonies in which they continue to describe the
horrific and despicable emotional, physical and sexual abuse inflicted upon them,
when they were children, by Michael Geilenfeld, Executive Director of the St.
Joseph’s Homes in Haiti.
I cannot understand for the life of me why you are unable to hear these same cries
of pain and sorrow.
You can count on the fact that Geilenfeld will one day soon be arrested and
convicted for crimes against children.

You can also be assured that civil lawsuits will be filed in U.S. Federal Court by
abuse victims of Geilenfeld against each and every one of you personally.
Do you hear me? Yes, civil lawsuits will be filed against each and every one of
you as individuals.
Fair warning. Do not doubt for a minute my commitment to holding you all
responsible and accountable for your negligence in protecting children.
When a jury listens to the evidence and testimony of the victims, when the jury
learns about the terrible and despicable things that Geilenfeld has done to
children, and when the jury discovers that you knew these things all along, you
can rest assured that the jury will take out their anguish and rage on all of you for
your failure to protect innocent children from this monster.
It will be a landmark civil case, for sure. Your your heads will be bowed in shame
as the world watches.
Sincerely,
Paul Kendrick
